MSOC: Oct. 10 C-USA Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Senior midfielder Henrique Sposito of UAB claims Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors after netting a pair of goals in the Blazers’ upset of No. 15 Kentucky. Teammate Mathieu Laurent earns Defensive Player of the Week after giving up one goal in a winning effort against Santa Clara and the Wildcats.  
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Henrique Sposito, UAB, Sr., MF, Campinas, Brazil
Sposito scored twice in a 2-1 victory over No. 15 Kentucky, with both goals coming in the first 20 minutes of the match. He doubled his career goals mark with his first-ever multiple goal effort. The senior is now tied for the team lead in goals (3) and points (7) this season. He also leads the team with two game-winning goals. This is Sposito’s first C-USA Player of the Week award of his career.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Mathieu Laurent, UAB, So., D, Markham, Ontario
Laurent played all 180 minutes across two big wins for the Blazers. He led UAB’s back line that only surrendered two shots on goals against No. 15 Kentucky and Santa Clara. The Blazers defense allowed one goal that was an own goal off a deflection in both matches. Laurent also tallied an assist on the game-winning goal against Santa Clara. This is Laurent’s first C-USA Player of the Week award this year, but third of his career.
