Maja Ristic is the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week after her combined 40 kills led the Owls to a pair of league victories last week, improving their C-USA record to 5-1. A pair of juniors from Rice earn C-USA accolades this week as
Portia Okafor is the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, while
Madison McDaniel garners C-USA Setter of the Week honors. Marshall's
Madison Hill continues to lead the conference in hitting percentage and is the C-USA Freshman of the Week for the second time this year.
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week - Maja Ristic, Florida Atlantic, Sr., OH, Brcko, Bosnia
Ristic led Florida Atlantic to a 2-0 week as the senior registered a combined 40 kills over Rice and North Texas. She also added 15 digs against Rice and 16 digs against North Texas for her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season. Ristic's 21 kills against Rice marked a season high for the outside hitter. Her 3.49 kills per set ranks fifth among C-USA leaders. This is Ristic's first career weekly award.
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week - Portia Okafor, Rice, Jr., MB, Lewisville, Texas
Okafor led the Owls to a 2-1 record last week, including a pair of sweeps. The junior tallied 20.0 blocks in 11 sets (1.82 per set) and had at least six blocks in all three matches. Okafor's seven blocks against Marshall were the third most by a C-USA player in three-set matches this season. Her 39 blocks during conference play lead all C-USA players and her 1.23 blocks per set on the season ranks second. This is Okafor's first weekly award this season and marks the third of her career.
C-USA Setter of the Week - Madison McDaniel, Rice, Jr., S, The Woodlands, Texas
McDaniel registered 127 total assists last week, good for 11.55 assists per set. She also recorded her league-leading 14
th and 15
th double-doubles of the season racking up 49 assists and 13 digs against Florida Atlantic, and 38 assists and 13 digs against UAB. McDaniel's 271 assists in conference play ranks third among C-USA leaders and her 869 total assists is a league best. This is McDaniel's seventh career C-USA weekly award and her second in 2016.
C-USA Freshman of the Week - Madison Hill, Marshall, Fr., MB, Rockwall, Texas
Hill paced the Thundering Herd to a 2-1 record last week with stellar all-around play. The freshman registered a career-high eight blocks against FIU, while also notching 13 kills at a .706 clip, the second-highest hitting percentage in C-USA matches this season. Hill also hit .562 against Louisiana Tech to improve her league-leading .444 hitting percentage, which ranks sixth among national leaders. This is Hill's second career weekly award.
