MSOC: Sept. 6 C-USA Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Senior forward Marco Sunol-Rojas of No. 19 Charlotte claims Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors after netting a pair of goals against Hofstra and tallying a goal and a pair of assists against Rutgers. Both opponents are receiving votes in the national polls. Teammate Callum Montgomery earns Defensive Player of the Week after notching a pair of dominating shutout wins against the Scarlet Knights and the Pride.  
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Marco Sunol-Rojas, Charlotte, Jr., F, Greensboro, N.C.
Sunol-Rojas scored three goals and recorded two assists in the 49ers season-opening victories over (RV) Hofstra, 6-0, on Monday, August 29, and (RV) Rutgers , 5-0, on Sunday. He netted two goals including a bicycle kick goal, which made ESPN's Sportscenter Top 10 Plays of the Day against Hofstra. Then, the junior scored a goal and recorded two assists, in the 49ers victory over Rutgers. His three goals came on only seven shots. This is Sunol-Rojas’s first C-USA Player of the Week award of his career.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Callum Montgomery, Charlotte, So., D, Victoria, BC, Canada
Montgomery played an integral role in helping the 49ers’ defense record back-to-back shutouts to open the season. He led the Charlotte defense to limiting its two opponents to only five shots on goal and 13 overall shots. The sophomore also saw the back of the net a three times, with a pair of those goals coming against Rutgers. This is Montgomery’s first C-USA Player of the Week award of his career.
