The first half was all defense with Jason Beaulieu of New Mexico making five saves and Charlotte’s Elliot Panicco making two. Both teams wanted to get on the board having 11 total shots in the first half.
 
Charlotte was fouled inside the New Mexico goal and Montgomery took the penalty kick, getting the 49ers on the board.
