Multi-events opened up the day's action as the women's pentathlon concluded with UTEP's Lucia Mokrasova taking the cake for the second consecutive season with 3,919. The men's heptathlon finished four of its seven events with Rice's Scott Filip in the lead with 3,285. The heptathlon will conclude on Sunday at 9 a.m. CST with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m run.
A C-USA Indoor Championships record was set by Charlotte's Victoria Merriweather in the weight throw the lone meet record of the day. The senior tossed it 21.4m (70'-02.50"). She broke the previous record, which was set by South Florida's Dayana Octavien in 2004.
Other field events were highlighted by UTSA's Ty Anderson, who took the men's high jump with a leap of 2.09m, while North Texas freshman Breanna Eckels earned the women's long jump gold with a 5.95m jump. WKU senior Ventavius Sears continued his stellar career with a 7.68m leap in the men's long jump for the gold. .
In the 5000m, UTEP's Lilly Koech knocked off two-time champion and Rice senior Cali Roper with a time of 16:31.70, while Middle Tennessee freshman Jacob Choge claimed the men's 5000m after clocking 14:13.60.
Admission prices are as follows: a two-day pass is $20 for adults and $10 for youth (12-17); while a single day ticket $15 per day for adults and $6 for youth (12-17). Admission is FREE for children age 11 and under and for students with valid ID cards who attend a C-USA member institution.
