GOLF: March 29 Golfers of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Sophomore Derick Kelting of Southern Miss earned Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week after tying his career low round of 68 on the final day to finish in fourth place. Golden Eagle sophomore Valentina Haupt claim the C-USA Women's Golfer of the Week after finishing ahead of four ranked individuals, giving Southern Miss a clean sweep for this week’s award.

C-USA Men's Golfer of the Week – Derick Kelting, Southern Miss, So., Amarillo, Texas
Kelting shot two rounds under par in the event, and tied his career-low round of 68 on the final day. He earned his top finish for his career with a fourth-place showing and has three par or under rounds this season. He ranked tied for fourth in the event in the number of birdies with 13 and his Par 5 scoring of six-under was tied for fifth best at the tournament. This is Kelting’s first C-USA Player of the Week award in his career.

C-USA Women's Golfer of the Week – Valentina Haupt, Southern Miss, So., Santiago, Chile
Haupt shot a career-best 217 over the three rounds at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate. Haupt finished tied for sixth in a strong field that included six top-100 individuals and 14 total teams, five of which are ranked in the top 50. Haupt finished above four ranked individuals and her third round score of 71 was tied for second best round on the day. The sophomore averaged an even score on Par 4’s, tied for the third best over the three days, tallied 37 pars and collected eight total birdies. This is the second top-10 finish for Haupt on the season and the sixth top-10 finish of her career. Haupt finished ahead of individuals ranked No. 49, 59, 60 and 97. This is the first C-USA Player of the Week award in Haupt's career.
