NORFOLK, Va. – No. 1 North Texas and No. 6 Southern Miss battled to double overtime where the Mean Green’s
Lauryn Bruffett scored in the 105
th minute to give North Texas their second consecutive C-USA Championship title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

North Texas struck first when
Aaliyah Nolan netted in a goal off a set piece 15 minutes in to the match. The game remained 1-0 until Southern Miss’
Ola Akinniyi scored 12 minutes before the end of regulation to send it into overtime.
The two teams went back and forth in the first period of extra time but it remained deadlocked at 1-1 to send it into double overtime, where Tournament Offensive MVP Bruffett scored the golden goal for the 2-1 victory.
Though the Golden Eagles didn’t come away with the win, this season marked their first with 13 wins and their first trip to the conference championship game. North Texas’ victory earned them their third tournament champion title in four years.
