- The 2018 Conference USA Swimming & Diving Championships are officially underway, as day one of the four day event has come to a close. Three-time defending league champion FIU reached the podium twice, setting school records in both events, to lead the field.
After an abbreviated opening night of competition, FIU is in first place with 80 points. Rice sits in second with 68, followed closely behind by Marshall with 64. North Texas is next with 60, followed by Florida Atlantic and Old Dominion, each with 54.
FIU began with a win in the 4×50 medley relay. The quartet of Naomi Ruele (24.53), Sara Gyertyanffy (27.41), Letizia Bertelli (23.48) and Ally Mayhew (22.42) combined to post a time of 1:37.84. Rice was second, while Marshall placed third.
The Panthers continued t with a four-second victory in the 4×200 free relay. Skye Carey (1:46.99), Kyna Pereira (1:46.64), Berta Triola (1:47.83) and Megan Bowen (1:47.18) posted a final time of 7:08.64 to earn top honors.
The C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships will resume Thursday, February 24, with prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. ET.
