ATLANTA – Four different FIU athletes posted first place finishes and the squad also won the 4x100 relay to further extend its lead as the Panthers head into the final day of competition at the 2018 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships on the verge of their fourth-straight championship crown. FIU leads the team scores with 707 points, ahead of second place Rice (502) and third place Marshall (353).

For the second straight night, Rice took the first competition of the evening, as
Kaitlyn Swinney repeated as champion of the 400 IM, shaving nearly six seconds off her prelims time in registering a 4:12.89, three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Old Dominion was the other school to produce a first place showing on Friday, as Monarchs junior
Ashley Brem took the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.75. This marks her first-ever C-USA individual title.
The rest of the evening belonged to FIU.
Senior
Letizia Bertelli, the 2017 C-USA Swimmer of the Year, picked up first place honors in the 100 Fly, touching the wall in 53.32. Fellow senior
Kyna Pereira, last year’s C-USA Championship Swimmer of the Meet, finished the 200 Free in 1:46.72 for her second-straight win in that event.
After winning the 50 free last night in record-setting time, Panthers junior
Naomi Ruele won another event, this time in the 100 back. She posted a final time of 52.54, dropping nearly two seconds off her prelims time for her second-straight C-USA win in this event.

Rebecca Quesnel took the top spot in the 1-meter dive with a score of 297.80. She was followed by FIU teammates
Rachel Foord (291.40) in second and
Brittany Haskell (284.30) in third.
FIU closed the night with its fourth relay victory of the meet, dominating the 4×100 medley. The Panther quartet of
Ruele (52.87),
Caritta Luukkanen (1:01.01),
Ally Mayhew (53.41) and
Bertelli (48.73) combined to post a winning time of 3:36.02.
