WGOLF: All-Conference Teams Announced

IRVING, Texas – UTSA amassed a league-leading three Women’s Golf All-Conference USA selections ahead of the program’s fourth NCAA Regional appearance. On top of the Roadrunners claiming the 2018 C-USA Championship, Ana Gonzalez was crowned C-USA Freshman of the Year and head coach Summer Batiste earned Coach of the Year. Simmermacher compiled a season-stroke average of 73.3, the second-best mark for the Monarchs this season. The senior is ranked second-highest among all C-USA golfers according to Golfstat and finished 24th at the Conference USA Championship in Fort Myers, Florida. The Argentina product notched four top-10 finishes in 2017-18, including third at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. She was the highest placement for Old Dominion in two of nine tournaments this season and also earned All-Conference USA First Team recognition.

Gonzalez crafted a breakout season for the Roadrunners this year en route to receiving the league’s highest freshman honor, as well as an All-C-USA Second Team pick. Her 73.94 stroke average is second-lowest on her squad as she was able to post a pair of second-place finishes. Her 3-under 213 (70-73-70) earned her runner-up at the league championship to help lift UTSA to the title. She forever etched her name in the program record books when she carded a 9-under 205 (70-67-68) at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, the best 54-hole scorecard in history.

Teammate and Conference USA Individual Medalist Julie Houston earned the league’s newcomer award last season and was deemed a first team pick in 2017-18. Batiste was also recognized at the helm of UTSA’s program as C-USA Coach of the Year in only her first season. The former Roadrunner great served as an assistant coach the previous three seasons, helping guide the team to multiple top-five finishes and postseason honors before being promoted.

Middle Tennessee’s Hanley Long proved to have the league’s best turnaround from last season as the C-USA Most Improved Golfer, also acquiring first-team honors. The junior played in all nine events and registered one of the conference’s top-five stroke averages (73.56), which also marks the school’s second-lowest single-season clip. Her 11 rounds of par or better on the year are tied for fourth-most in Middle Tennessee history, and her career-low 4-under is tied for the third-best 54 holes among all Blue Raiders ever. To top her standout season, Long came in third place at the C-USA Championship at 1-over. Her trio of eagles this season are tied 29th nationally.
