DALLAS – Marshall pulled out the broom for a C-USA weekly awards sweep behind the efforts of veteran guard C.J. Burks and rising freshman Taevion Kinsey. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools.
 
Player of the Week
C.J. Burks, Marshall
Senior, 6-4, 195, G, Martinsburg, West Virginia
Burks filled the box scores with a pair of 30-point outings in Marshall wins over Florida Atlantic and FIU. On the week, the senior also totaled 10 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. Burks was highly efficient as he shot 65.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from range and a flawless 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. In the first game against the Owls, the West Virginia native shot 12-of-12 from the charity stripe and 8-for-14 from the field for his 30 points to go with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. One of his dimes was an alley-oop to fellow award-winner Taevion Kinsey that was featured as a top play on ESPN SportsCenter’s Twitter account. His encore against FIU was an 11-of-15 shooting night, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. It is the first C-USA weekly award on the year for Burks and the fifth of his career (Nov. 30, 2015, Dec. 14, 2015, Jan. 22, 2018 and Feb. 19, 2018).

Freshman of the Week
Taevion Kinsey, Marshall
Freshman, 6-5, 177, F, Columbus, Ohio
Since entering the starting lineup, Kinsey has stepped up in a big way for Marshall. The frosh averaged 13 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of Herd wins while recording a 59.1 shooting percentage. Against Florida Atlantic, Kinsey flushed an alley-oop that was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter Twitter account. In his next game against FIU, Kinsey went 10-of-15 from the field for 20 points and nine rebounds. Eight of his 10 made attempts were dunks, including three alley-oops. The 20-point effort was his second game of at least 20 points this season. It is Kinsey’s second weekly award on the year.
