DALLAS – Rice graduate Jack Williams logged a pair of double-doubles to claim his first C-USA Player of the Week award. Marshall guard Taevion Kinsey secured the freshman weekly award after making his first two starts in the Herd’s opening weekend of league action. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools.
 
Player of the Week
Jack Williams, Rice
Graduate Senior, 6-8, 220, F, Valencia, Calif.
Williams recorded consecutive double-doubles (13.5 points, 10.5 rebounds) in Rice’s pair of victories. Against Southern Miss, the California product scored 12 points, all in the second half, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Two days later, he notched 15 points and tallied a season-high 11 rebounds in a 78-66 win over Louisiana Tech. Williams’s 3-pointer with 3:44 to play gave Rice the lead for good as they closed the game on a 17-4 run. On the week, Williams connected on 50 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from deep. He helped lead the Owls to their first two-game win streak and first home weekend sweep since 2016-17. It is the first C-USA weekly award in Williams’s career.

Freshman of the Week
Taevion Kinsey, Marshall
Freshman, 6-5, 177, G, Columbus, Ohio
Kinsey had a stellar shooting week making 13-of-18 attempts from the field, while making the first two starts of his career in conference play. In his first start at Old Dominion, Kinsey had a career night in seven different categories including minutes (35), made three-pointers (2), threes attempted (3), rebounds (7), assists (3), blocks (3) and field goals attempted (6), while connecting on five shots to score 13 points. The guard’s encore performance was his first-career 40 minute outing at Charlotte. There, he tied his career high of 14 points on 50 percent shooting. Kinsey also brought down five rebounds, dished out three assists and had a pair of steals in the win. In the loss at No. 4 Virginia, Kinsey scored 8 points on a perfect shooting night (4-of-4). It is Kinsey’s first-career C-USA weekly award.
