MSOC: Oct. 7 Players of the Week

DALLAS – No. 9 Charlotte’s Axel Sigurdarson was tabbed Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week as he paced the 49ers to an unbeaten week on the road. (RV) Marshall’s Illal Osmanu received defensive honors after leading the Herd to two shutout victories. All weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Axel Sigurdarson, Charlotte, Fr., Reykjavik, Iceland
Sigurdarson played a key role in the 49ers two road wins on the week. The freshman scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Furman. He was also fouled in the box which gave Charlotte the penalty kick that led to their first goal of the match. The Reykjavik, Iceland, native then netted a goal in a 3-1 victory at Florida Atlantic. He has now scored a goal in three straight games.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Illal Osmanu, Marshall, Sr., Accra, Ghana
Osmanu captained the Herd defense through consecutive shutouts against Dayton and UAB. The senior played all 180 minutes between both contests. In a 2-0 victory over Dayton, he helped hold the Flyers to just eight total shots while preserving the clean sheet. He then led the defensive unit in a 6-0 victory over conference foe UAB, limiting the Blazers to two shots.
