DENTON, Texas – No. 2 seed North Texas was crowned the victor of the 2019 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship after a 5-2 win on their home turf over No. 1 seed Florida Atlantic. With the win, the Mean Green clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This marks the sixth year in a row that they have won either the C-USA regular-season title or the championship title.

The first half ended evenly in a 2-2 draw. North Texas struck first in the 12
th minute with a goal from
Natalie Newell. Florida Atlantic responded six minutes later as
Elisha Holmes netted the equalizer. The Owls ended up on top after a
Sammy Vitols’ score in the 31
st minute. The Mean Green answered six minutes later as
Olivia Klein netted in the final goal before the break.
North Texas defended their championship titles from 2015, 2017 and 2018 with three unanswered goals in the second half.

The Mean Green – and C-USA teams on the hunt for an at-large bid – now await the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 11 at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT where they will learn who they will face in the first round.
