MBB: Feb. 11 Players of the Week

DALLAS – A pair of repeat winners highlight this week’s Conference USA men’s basketball weekly awards. UTSA sophomore guard Keaton Wallace secured his second honor in a row following a three-point onslaught that toppled Roadrunner records over the weekend. WKU friendly face Charles Bassey pulled off the three-peat as C-USA Freshman of the week. The Nigeria native averaged a double-double in a pair of Hilltopper wins. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools.
 
Player of the Week
KEATON WALLACE, UTSA
Sophomore, 6-3, 170, G, Dallas, Texas
Wallace enjoyed a prolific week in a pair of UTSA wins. The red-hot sophomore averaged 25.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals during a record-setting weekend. Wallace set the UTSA single-season record for 3-pointers made after draining five against Florida Atlantic on Saturday. On Thursday vs. FIU, the sophomore recorded 27 points, including 5-of-6 from range. He finished the weekend 10-of-19 from beyond the arc. Over his last five outings, Wallace is sporting 30.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. It is Wallace’s second C-USA weekly award on the season and the fifth in his career.

Freshman of the Week
CHARLES BASSEY, WKU
Freshman, 6-11, 245, C, Lagos, Nigeria

For the third straight week, Bassey averaged a double-double with 14 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game in two road victories for WKU. The freshman had 10 points, 14 rebounds and tied his career high with five blocks in Thursday’s 92-85 double-overtime win at Rice. The frosh played a career-high 39 minutes as he notched his C-USA-leading 12th double-double. On Saturday, Bassey led WKU in scoring with 18 points, along with seven rebounds and four blocks in a hard-fought road victory at North Texas. Across the week, he shot 52.6 percent from the field and netted 7-of-8 from the stripe, while averaging 37.5 minutes per contest. Bassey is one of two freshmen in the country averaging a double-double. It is the seventh C-USA weekly award in Bassey’s prosperous career.
