DALLAS – Louisiana Tech guard DaQuan “DayDay” Bracey snagged his first C-USA Player of the Week honor behind a 25.5 scoring average in a pair of home wins that preserved LA Tech’s perfect record in Ruston (14-0). WKU post Charles Bassey pulled off the rare four-peat as C-USA Freshman of the week. With his eighth freshman honor in the bag, Bassey is now second all-time in the C-USA record books behind Rice’s Marcus Evans, who earned 10 awards in 2015-16. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
Player of the Week
DAQUAN BRACEY, LOUISIANA TECH
Junior, 5-11, 174, G, Baltimore, Maryland
Bracey helped the Bulldogs remain undefeated at home this season (14-0) with victories over UTEP and UTSA this past week. Against the Miners, Bracey dropped a career-high 28 points and corralled a career-tying six rebounds. Defensively, he assisted in holding the Miners to 57 points, which marked the sixth C-USA opponent this season to be held under 60 points. Against the Roadrunners, he had another efficient outing by putting up a game-high 23 points to go along with a team-high four assists. He was clutch down the stretch, scoring six straight points after UTSA tied the game up at 64-64 with two minutes to play. Defensively, the 67 points tied for the fewest the Roadrunners have scored in a league game this season. With the award, Bracy earned his first career C-USA Player of the Week honor and his fourth total C-USA weekly award after notching three freshman decorations in 2016-17.
Freshman of the Week
CHARLES BASSEY, WKU
Freshman, 6-11, 245, C, Lagos, Nigeria
Bassey averaged 18 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and shot 66.7 percent from the field (16-of-24) last week in a home split against Middle Tennessee and UAB. The freshman tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in a victory over the Blue Raiders on Thursday, then recorded his C-USA-leading 13th double-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a loss to UAB on Saturday. Bassey finished the game against the Blazers 10-of-13 from the field, tying his career high for made field goals, while scoring 15 points in the first half alone. It is the eighth C-USA Freshman of the Week award in Bassey’s career, which places him second in league history behind Rice’s Marcus Evans (10, 2015-16). Bassey’s four freshman awards in a row is also third all-time behind Marcus Evans (six) and Tulane’s Ricky Tarrant (five).
