The Owls seized their 18
th-straight victory on Thursday night against UTSA, a win that also set the school’s single-season record (25). The stretch is the third-longest active NCAA win streak and the second-longest in C-USA history. Rice made their first-ever appearance in the AP Top 25 on Feb. 18 and have remained among the nation’s elite three weeks in a row.
Defending C-USA Regular-Season Champion and preseason favorite UAB clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye on Thursday with a season-high 95 points against Louisiana Tech in the regular-season finale. The Blazers posted a 24-5 overall record and 12-4 conference mark.
No. 3 Middle Tennessee rostered six newcomers heading into 2018-19 and managed to amass 11 wins in league action and 20 on the year. The Lady Raiders earned one of four first-round byes into the last game of the tournament quarterfinals.
WKU is slotted as the fourth seed and will march into the C-USA Quarterfinal round on a high note as the Toppers knocked off Middle Tennessee in a renewal of one of the league’s oldest rivalries Thursday night. The reigning C-USA Champion tallied an 11-5 showing in conference play and will look to seize its fourth title in five seasons in Frisco next week.
Fifth-seeded Old Dominion, tied for the sixth-youngest team in the nation, far exceeded its preseason expectation of 11
th place and went on to boast 10 conference wins and one of the highest RPIs among the league. The Monarchs toppled Florida Atlantic in their regular-season finale in Boca Raton and will face off against the Owls once again in the first round.
College basketball at its very best will be held March 13-16 at Ford Center in Frisco, Texas. For the second year in a row, 24 men’s and women’s basketball teams will be playing 22 games on two courts simultaneously in the state-of-the-art Dallas Cowboys practice facility.
