MSOC: Sept. 2 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Both of the league’s Florida schools bested a nationally ranked opponent to earn the first Conference USA Men’s Soccer weekly awards of the 2019 campaign. FIU’s Andrew Booth topped the Panthers in points and goals to earn offensive honors. Florida Atlantic’s Hagay Jalon secured the Owls’ first clean sheet of the season and received the defensive award. All weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.
 
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Andrew Booth, FIU, Sr., Tamarac, Florida
Booth concluded the first week of play with five points across two games. The senior posted two goals in the Panthers’ 5-1 victory against St. Bonaventure. The next day against No. 17 James Madison, Booth tallied an assist, helping FIU to a 3-1 defeat of the reigning 2018 CAA Champions. The midfielder’s hot start propelled the squad to an undefeated record in week one.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Hagay Jalon, Florida Atlantic, R-Sr., Haifa, Israel
Jalon recorded his first shutout of the season in the Owls’ first match against No. 17 James Madison. The seasoned veteran goalkeeper posted five saves for the clean sheet, securing Florida Atlantic a 1-0 victory. The match marked the redshirt senior’s third career shutout and first against a ranked team. His performance paced the Owls to their first 1-0 start since 2011.
