FB: Sept. 23 Players of the Week

DALLAS – After catching 11 passes for 173 yards and becoming the first Conference USA player since 2016 to catch four touchdown passes in a game, Florida Atlantic graduate transfer WR Deangelo Antoine has been named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week.  The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Old Dominion sophomore DE Keion White, who had six tackles, 3.5 TFL’s and one sack at No. 21 Virginia.  The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to Louisiana Tech senior K Bailey Hale, who had five field goals and scored 19 points in the Bulldogs win over FIU.  C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.  All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.

Antoine was asked to move from wide receiver to slot last week and the move was not only breakout, it was record-breaking.  Antoine had 11 receptions for 173 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Wagner.  His four TDs marked just the eighth time in C-USA’s 25-year history that a player has caught four or more TDs in a game.  Two players have caught five and Antoine is the sixth player to catch four in a game and is the first since 2016.  The four TDs one-upped the bar set by teammate John Mitchell, who had three a week ago at Ball State, and set a new single-game record for FAU, breaking the previous mark of three set by Coretz Gent in 2008 and tied by Mitchell.  The Orlando, Florida native’s TD receptions were for 37, 17, 28 and 57 yards and most yardage was made after the catch.

White had six tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack for Old Dominion in the Monarchs' 28-17 loss at No. 21 Virginia. In just his third game playing defense (played tight end last year) and his first game at the bandit position, White registered a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss, the third most in a single-game in school history.  The Garner, North Carolina native also blocked a field goal early in the fourth quarter that kept ODU's 17-14 lead at the time.  With White leading the way, the Monarchs defense allowed the fewest total yards (244) against any ranked FBS opponent this week.

Hale continued his success in the kicking game on Friday evening, connecting on all five of his field goal tries (5-for-5 from 25 (twice), 29, 41 and 45) and all four of his extra-point attempts in a conference-opening win over FIU.  His 19 points were the most scored by a C-USA kicker since September 2014 and tied for the third-most ever by a C-USA kicker.  Hale’s 5-for-5 outing tied the LA Tech program record (which Hale also matched last season at North Texas).  The Iowa Park, Texas native became just one of four Bulldog kickers to connect on five FGA twice in a career.  Since missing his first two FG attempts of the season in Tech’s opener, Hale has made seven consecutive field goals.  He is also a perfect 13-for-13 on extra points this season.
