WSOC: Sept. 23 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Middle Tennessee’s MacKenzie Bonham received Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring three of the Blue Raiders’ four goals in an overtime victory. North Texas’ Dominique James was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for her performance that helped hand a conference foe their first loss of the season. Florida Atlantic’s Cassidy Wasdin recorded two shutouts to earn Goalkeeper of the Week. All weekly awards are presented by Top of the World.

C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – MacKenzie Bonham, Middle Tennessee, Fr., Acworth, Georgia
In her first career start, Bonham scored her first career goal and then some, rattling off a hat trick in the Blue Raiders’ conference opener against UTSA. The freshman knotted up the score in the 58th minute at 2-2. Then, when Middle Tennessee found themselves down 3-2 with under a minute left in regulation, Bonham scored off a free kick to send the match to overtime. The Acworth, Georgia, native netted the golden goal from 15 yards outside the box to secure a victory for the Blue Raiders. Her six points led the league this week and earned a key conference win.

C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Dominique James, North Texas, Sr., Fort Worth, Texas
The Mean Green lifted the lid on conference action with a 1-0 shutout over unbeaten Old Dominion, largely due to defensive efforts led by James. The senior played all 90 minutes and anchored a unit that held the Monarchs, who entered averaging three goals per game, scoreless and to just two shots on goal. James’ performance helped shut down one of the league’s top scorers in Amanda Nhek, who tallied just one shot in the match. The Fort Worth, Texas, native made a highlight play early in the game when she chased down an Old Dominion forward who was on a breakaway inside the attacking third, cleanly stole the ball and cleared it into North Texas offensive territory. The Mean Green extended their NCAA-leading home unbeaten streak in conference play to 50 matches with the win.

C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week – Cassidy Wasdin, Florida Atlantic, R-Fr., Jacksonville, Florida
Wasdin continued to shine in goal as she picked up two clean sheet victories on the backend of a 5-0 homestand for Florida Atlantic. The redshirt freshman spent 168:03 in goal across both shutouts, tallying a save in the Owls’ league opener against Marshall. Wasdin stopped both of Creighton’s shots on goal, which proved crucial to Florida Atlantic’s narrow 1-0 victory over the Bluejays, who entered the match with a 6-2 record including wins over multiple Power Five opponents.
