What is the best thing about being a teacher?
As an educator, the greatest benefits include instilling a positive outlook in children, cultivating enduring relationships, and experiencing frequent moments of insight and understanding, coupled with the privilege of being a respected influence in their lives.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
Growing up as an at-risk youth, I was fortunate to have outstanding educators who shaped my future, and now as a teacher, I strive to replicate their positive impact on students from similar backgrounds.
What was your favorite subject in school?
Throughout my educational journey, history has had a particular allure for me, driven by a curiosity about human development. I was particularly drawn to understanding the psychological underpinning and resourcefulness of individuals adapting to their surroundings.
What makes a “good” day at school?
A fulfilling day at school is a balance of humor, obstacles, appreciation, understanding, and transformative learning encounters.
How do you remember all your students’ names?
During the first week of school. Learning students' names poses a considerable challenge for me. To rise to this challenge, I establish a one-week deadline to familiarize myself with their names, with studying ??. If I remain uncertain of a student's name by the end of the week's end, they are invited to dine with me during lunch.
If you could take your students anywhere on a field trip, where would you take them?
As a fourth-grade teacher covering Texas History, I would select the Alamo in San Antonio for a field trip, as it offers numerous opportunities for my students to explore and deepen their understanding of their state's heritage.
What advice can you share for future teachers?
My advice to aspiring future teachers is to dive in and join us. Despite the challenges posed by financial obligations and educational shortcomings, preserving your enthusiasm for education guarantees yearly accomplishments and confirms that this profession is your ideal choice and calling.
