Memphis freshman Diamond Simpson and UTEP sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Dilling each earned C-USA weekly honors for the first time. Simpson was named the Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the golden goal to give Memphis a 2-1 road win against in-state foe Vanderbilt. Dilling was credited with a pair of shutouts for the Miners to lead her team to a Border Bash title and individual Defensive Player of the Week honors.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DIAMOND SIMPSON, MEMPHIS
Freshman, F/MF, Mississauga, Ontario
Simpson netted the golden goal in Memphis' 2-1 double-overtime win against intrastate foe Vanderbilt Thursday. Simpson, nicknamed the "Terminator," collected her first career goal as the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute. The Mississauga, Ontario, native recorded three shots in the match and converted the winner after a shot clanked off the cross bar. This is her first Player of the Week honor.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SARAH DILLING, UTEP
Sophomore, GK, Calgary, Alberta
Dilling was flawless over the weekend to help UTEP capture the Border Bash Championship with a pair of shutouts. Dilling registered four saves in a lightning-shortened 3-0 victory against Weber State. Her best moment in the match was in the 51st minute, when WSU's Mackenzie Harrison laced a shot that appeared destined for the upper 90 before Dilling used a breathtaking save to punch it wide. She recorded three saves, including a highlight-reel stop in the 66th minute, during the Miners' 1-0 triumph Sunday against Sam Houston State. Dilling also punched out a dangerous service off a free kick with two minutes to play. She has now recorded three shutouts in the past four tilts. This is Dilling's first weekly award of her career.
