BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 8 seed Charlotte 49ers continue to defend their 2016 title as they took down No. 1 seed Rice in the final minutes of the C-USA Championship Quarterfinals on Wednesday. The game was scoreless until 2017 Offensive Player of the Year Martha Thomas scored the lone goal of the game in the 88th minute. This goal marks Thomas’s third game-winning goal in conference play.

Both team’s defenses stood their ground in the first half, as the game was 0-0 going into halftime, with only two saves from both goalkeepers, including 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year Maya Hoyer.
 
Charlotte will face the winner of Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion on Friday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. EST. The semifinals, as well as the remainder of today’s quarterfinal games, will air on CUSA TV.
