TF: 7 Earn First-Team All-America Honors

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA closed out the 2018 Track & Field season with eight USTFCCCA First-Team All-Americans and nine on second-team. 

Abike Egbeniyi of Middle Tennessee finished second in the women's 800m run at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 2:04.33 to pick the lone First-Team All-America honor on the women's side. Egbeniyi was joined by freshman and fellow Blue Raider Edidiong Odiong, who earned a second-team nod after finishing ninth in the 200m dash. UTEP's Michael Saruni picked up third in the men's 800m with a time of 1:45.25 and fellow teammate Jonah Koech finished with a time of 1:46.23 to get sixth, both earning a spot on the All-America First-Team. 

Southern Miss's McKinely West finished in the top eight in three events at NCAA Championships, sixth in the 100m, eighth in the 200m and sixth in the 4x100m relay with fellow Golden Eagles Cra'vorkian Carson, Alexander Richemond and Chedlin Sagesse. John Warren of Southern Miss hit a mark of 15.86 meters in the triple jump and earned a 15th-place finish and Second-Team All-America honors. WKU men's 4x100 meter relay team (William Bush, Kymari Gates, Eli Minor, and Julius Morris) clocked a time of 38.94 to earn a ninth-place finish and second-team honors, while Morris also finished 14th in the 200m semifinals. Gates and Morris were joined by teammates Oliver Alexandre and Austin Hayes on the 4x400m relay team that finished 18th to earn USTFCCCA Honorable Mention. 

Scott Filip of Rice earned 7,803 points in the decathlon, finishing fifth overall and nabbed first-team honors for the second-consecutive year. Scott was joined in the decathlon by UTSA senior Adrian Riley who collected 7,520 points and second-team honors after finishing in 12th place. Roadrunner Ty Anderson also earned a spot on second-team after finishing 13th in the high jump with a mark of 2.08 meters. Patrick Prince rounded out the award winners for UTSA with a 20th-place finish in the 110m hurdles to conclude his junior season. 

Michelle Fokam and Hannah Jackson represented Rice on the women's side in the triple jump and 200m, respectively. Fokam finished 17th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.97 meters, while Jackson ran the 200m in 23.53 seconds and finished 22nd.

Charlotte's Mihret Coulter and Tom Nobles competed in the 3000m steeplechase with Coulter earning second-team with a 16th place finish and Nobles finishing 21st to receive honorable mention. Sophomore Elijah Cole reached a height of 5.15 meters in pole vault finals and earned a 17th-place finish. Rounding out the competition for the Niners was triple jumper Markel Dalton, who jumped into 20th place with a mark of 15.14 meters. 

Alexis Chiles finished her senior career with the Golden Eagles with a 22nd-place finish in the women's shot put, and freshman Callie Jones threw for a 47.01 meter-mark in the javelin for Southern Miss to earn 19th place in her inaugural season.
