McCormick broke UTSA's single-game rushing record to help spearhead a potent ground game in the Roadrunners' 26-16 victory over UTEP on Saturday night in El Paso. The true freshman tailback rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries to help UTSA pile up 320 yards on the ground and improve to a perfect 4-0 against the Miners at the Sun Bowl. McCormick averaged 8.6 yards per carry en route to eclipsing the previous school standard of 186 yards set by Jarveon Williams in 2015 against Charlotte. The Converse, Texas, product leads UTSA and ranks third in C-USA with 439 rushing yards through five games and his 6.6 yards-per-carry average stands second in the league and 25th nationally.
Moffatt turned in a career-high 13 solo tackles against Marshall in the C-USA opener, finishing with 14 total tackles to lead the Blue Raiders in the 24-13 win. Moffatt was making plays all over the field, as he also hauled in his first two interceptions of the season. The first pick set up Middle Tennessee’s first touchdown in the opening quarter, and his second one sealed the win in the fourth quarter. The Union City, Tennessee, native also snuffed out a fake field goal on a fourth-and-10 attempt from the Blue Raiders 27-yard line early in the fourth quarter, stopping the play five yards short of a first down. Moffatt now has 26 tackles in the last two games combined after registering 12 stops at No. 14 Iowa last week.
Alexander electrified FIU on Saturday night with a 90-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter of the Panthers’ 44-0 victory over Massachusetts. The 90-yard return ranks as the second-longest in program history, behind only T.Y. Hilton’s 97-yard return in 2011 versus Florida Atlantic. The Florida City, Florida, native finished the game with 140 total punt return yards, as he also had a 50-yard return. With Alexander’s career night, the senior now leads the nation with his 28.7 yards per punt return average. Additionally, the 90 yard return and 140 total punt return yards are the most by any player in the nation this season.
