DALLAS – After catching eight passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a win at Middle Tennessee, Rice junior WR Brad Rozner has been named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week.  The Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Marshall junior LB Tavante Beckett, who had a team-high 13 tackles, a pass breakup and a fumble return in the Thundering Herd’s win against Louisiana Tech.  The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to Southern Miss junior P Zac Everett, who averaged 46.5 yards on six punts at UTSA, placing four inside the 20.  C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.  All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.

Rozner became the seventh Owl in history to catch three touchdowns in a game to lead the Owls to their first win of the year, 31-28, at Middle Tennessee.  Rozner caught eight passes for 130 yards and scored all three of his touchdowns in the first half as Rice built a 31-14 lead.  The Needville, Texas, native hauled in scores of 30, 18 and 34 yards from Tom Stewart to become the first Owl since Jordan Taylor in 2013 to have three TD receptions in a game.  He topped 100 yards for the fourth time this year, becoming the first Rice receiver since Taylor in 2014 to top 100 yards four times in a season.  Rozner’s 681 receiving yards this year are the most for a first-year player at Rice since 1951, while his 47 receptions are second to Larry Davis, who had 54 in 1967.

Beckett tallied 13 tackles (six solo), a fumble recovery and return of 16 yards, along with a pass breakup in Marshall’s 31-10 victory over Louisiana Tech.  With the Thundering Herd defense backed up to its own 11 early in the fourth quarter, he raced into the backfield on 4th and 1 and scooped up the loose ball, rumbling to the LA Tech 40 to set up the game-clinching Brenden Knox touchdown run. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native was all over the field for the Herd, leading a unit that limited the league’s top offense to just 10 points, 67 rushing yards and 261 yards of total offense.  LA Tech also went just 6-for-17 on 3rd down attempts and 0-2 on fourth down.

Everett provided a boost in the field position aspect of the game for Southern Miss in the win at UTSA, averaging 46.5 yards per kick over six punts.  All six of the Saraland, Alabama, native’s punts went for 40 or more yards and three landed 50 or better, including a season-best 56-yarder.  Four of Everett’s punts pinned the Roadrunners inside their 20-yard line.  The net punt average was 46.0 yards, as UTSA managed four returns for only three yards.
