BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2020 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded Sunday. Charlotte won the men’s championship title with 135 points. Rice’s captured the women’s title for the first time since 2009 with 110 points. UTSA were the men’s runners-up and Middle Tennessee were the women’s runners-up.

More field action took place on day two, as UTSA freshman
Jack Turner retained his day one lead in the heptathlon and claimed the title, making 2020 the second year in a row a Roadrunners’ freshman has won the event. Turner totaled 5142 points for the victory.
Terrell Adams of Charlotte came in first place in the men’s shot put, after coming in third in 2018 and second in 2019, with a throw of 19.02m. In the men’s triple jump, UTSA’s
Andre Douglas, who took second in the event in 2018 and third in 2019, finished first with a leap of 15.52m.
Middle Tennessee’s
Esther Isa claimed the top spot in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.76m. Rice’s
Michelle Fokam earned the second league triple jump victory with her leap of 13.32m. Charlotte’s
Riley Felts won the women’s pole vault for the second year in a row, clearing 4.06m. UTSA’s
Maia Campbell came in first in shot put with a mark of 16.12m.
The majority of running finals took place on the second day of competition, kicked off by the women’s mile. Rice freshman
Grace Forbes finished in 4:40.05 for first place.
Jacob Choge of Middle Tennessee bested his 2019 second-place finish in the mile with a first-place mark in 2020, running a 4:06.88.
UTEP’s
Maribel Caicedo won the 60m hurdles in 8.26. On the men’s side of the event, UTSA’s
Bashiru Abdullahi claimed the gold medal in a time of 7.80.
In the women’s 400m, Charlotte’s
Maya Singletary earned the top spot after finishing in 53.85. UTEP’s
Sean Bailey won on the men’s side after recording a time of 46.42.
Middle Tennessee’s
Cecilia Francis reclaimed her 2018 60m dash crown, winning in a time of 7.44. Charlotte freshman
Gabriel Nash won the men’s 60m dash title, running a 6.71.
UTEP’s
Carolyne Chepkosgei finished the women’s 800m in 2:11.95 for first place. She previously finished in second in 2018 and third in 2019.
Brian Rono of Middle Tennessee won the men’s event in 1:52.28.
After taking second in 2019, Rice’s
Hannah Jackson took back her 2018 200m title with a time of 23.57. WKU’s
Dartez Hamlin was victorious on the men’s side, finishing in 21.12.
Rice’s
Grace Forbes garnered her second title of the day in the 3000m. The freshman finished in a time of 9:21.19. Earning his second consecutive men’s 3000m championship was Middle Tennessee’s
Kigen Chemadi in a time of 8:12.31.
Charlotte won the women’s 4x400 relay, finishing in 3:41.28. UTEP claimed the event on the men’s side in a time of 3:12.18.
Up next for C-USA indoor track and field are the 2020 NCAA Championships, held March 13-14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico for qualifying individuals.
