WBB: Nov. 15 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Old Dominion graduate transfer Iggy Allen earned the first Conference USA Player of the Week award of the season, following her impressive start to the season across two games for the Monarchs, while Louisiana Tech’s Amaya Brannon took home Freshman of the Week honors with a strong debut across two appearances for the Lady Techsters. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s women’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
IGGY ALLEN, OLD DOMINION
GRADUATE STUDENT, G, 5-11, POMPANO BEACH, FLORIDA
Allen averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game across two games as ODU went 2-0 to open the season. Allen shot .433 (13-30) from the floor and .625 (5-8) from three-point range and also added five steals. The Florida native led ODU, either outright or shared, in scoring and rebounding in both games. She had 15 points and seven rebounds with three steals on 6-13 shooting (2-2 three-point) in ODU's season-opening 80-52 win over S.C. State. Allen tallied a 21-point, 15-rebound double-double in the Monarchs' 57-44 win over Auburn, where she made three treys. Allen set the game-high in scoring and rebounding and also shared the game-high with two steals. Allen personally outscored Auburn in the third quarter as ODU won the period 22-8 to break the game open.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
AMAYA BRANNON, LA TECH
FRESHMAN, G, 5-11, PLANO, TEXAS
Brannon scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds as she became just the 13th true freshman since the start of the 2000-01 season to start the season opener for the Lady Techsters in the season-opening win over Jarvis Christian. Brannon added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc in Tech’s 95-48 win over LSU-Alexandria. Brannon collected six rebounds, dished out two assists and recorded a steal against the Generals of LSU-Alexandria. For the week, Brannon scored 25 points, going 11-of-19 (.579 %) from the field and 3-of-6 (.500 %) from the three-point line. Brannon also grabbed 10 rebounds, while adding two assists and two steals on the week.
