MBB: Dec. 20 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Following two wins on the week, WKU graduate senior Camron Justice earned his first weekly Conference USA honor as he was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, UTEP’s Kevin Kalu earned his first C-USA recognition as he was named the Freshman of the Week. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CAMRON JUSTICE, WESTERN KENTUCKY
GRADUATE SENIOR, G, 6-3, HINDMAN, KY.
Justice had a WKU career-high 25-point performance against in-state rival Louisville, lifting the team to its first-ever victory over the Cardinals inside Diddle Arena, just one week after a tornado hit the city of Bowling Green and parts of Western Kentucky. Over the Hilltoppers’ two contests, Justice shot 52.4% from the floor, 53.8% beyond the arc and did not miss at the free throw line. He averaged 17.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in just 28 minutes. Against Louisville, he shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the 3-point line in the first half, shooting 7-of-12 overall. He also added three assists, three rebounds and two steals. In Tuesday's game against Centre College, he scored 10 points and had six assists against just one turnover.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KEVIN KALU, UTEP
FRESHMAN, F, 6-9, BALTIMORE, MD.
Kalu came alive with a career-high eight points to help UTEP hold off upset-minded McNeese State on Thursday, 82-72. Kalu also pulled down four rebounds. The Miners won for the first time on the year when trailing at the break, and erased what was once a 12-point first-half deficit to claim their fifth double-digit victory out of six wins.
