DALLAS – Following two wins on the week, Charlotte junior and C-USA scoring leader Jahmir Young earned his first weekly Conference USA honor of the season as he was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, Southern Miss’ Rashad Bolden earned his second C-USA recognition as he was named the Freshman of the Week. The 2021 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAHMIR YOUNG, CHARLOTTE
JUNIOR, G, 6-1, UPPER MARLBORO, MD.
Young averaged 20 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in Charlotte's pair of wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Western Carolina this week. Young's 40 points in two games, came on an efficient 14-of-26 from the field, for a shooting percentage of 53.8 percent. Against Eastern Shore, Young nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling in nine rebounds to help lead Charlotte past the Hawks, 70-54. On Wednesday against WCU, Young helped CLT record its highest scoring output since head man Ron Sanchez took over, scoring another 20 points and dishing out five assist. Young currently leads the league in scoring with 20.1 points per game and has scored 20 or more points nine times this season.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
RASHAD BOLDEN, SOUTHERN MISS
FRESHMAN, G, 6-0, JACKSON, MISS.
Bolden went for 12 points in the one-point loss on the road at East Carolina last Tuesday. Bolden's 12 points came on the heels of a 19-point performance at ULM the previous Saturday. The freshman has combined for more points in the previous two games than he had in the five games before and also dished out a career-best five assists as he played all 40 minutes against ECU. Bolden went 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-3 from three-point land and it was the first time he played a full 40 minutes in his young career.
