HOUSTON, Texas - Charlotte ended the three-season reign of North Texas as C-USA women's soccer champions as the 49ers beat the Mean Green 1-0 in the second quarterfinal game of the 2020 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship at Rice's Holloway Field.

In the 41st minute, Charlotte's
Haley Shand made a steal at midfield, dribbled through two defenders and drilled a low shot from just outside the top of the box to inside the far post for the game's only goal. The goal was Shand's second of the season for the 49ers.
The result ended North Texas' run as the C-USA tourney champs. The Mean Green had won the conference title in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The Charlotte victory was also the first for the 49ers over the Mean Green in eight games all-time.
Charlotte (5-5) moves to the semifinal round against WKU on Thursday (4:30 pm CT). The 49ers will take on WKU (8-1-2), which beat UAB 1-0 earlier in the day.
North Texas (7-3-1) out-shot Charlotte 16-6 overall, including a 13-1 edge in the first half, and each team had three shots on goal. The Mean Green had all five corner kicks in the contest.
