WSOC: C-USA QF 3 - (3W) Southern Miss 2, (2E) Florida Atlantic 1

HOUSTON, Texas – Southern Miss used a late first-half goal by Nolubabalo Sishuba and a goal in the first minute of the second half by Hailey Pohevitz to grab a 2-0 lead on the way to a 2-1 victory over Florida Atlantic in the third quarterfinal game of the 2020 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship at Rice's Holloway Field.

With the victory, the Golden Eagles (7-3) advance to the semifinal round against the winner of Old Dominion-Rice on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
 
In the 41st minute after a soaring ball near the six-yard box. Sishuba beat the Florida Atlantic goalkeeper to the ball and deflected it into the FAU net for a 1-0 USM lead. It was her first goal of the season.
 
Right after halftime, the Golden Eagles had a breakway down the left wing. Pohevitz hit a half-volley with pace that skipped past the goaltender for her second goal of the season as USM doubled its advantage just 36 seconds into the second half.
 
Florida Atlantic (5-4-2) cut the lead in half in the 68th minute when Mia Sennes got her second goal of the season.
 
Southern Miss’ defense held firm in the final minutes, as goaltender Kendell Mindnich made a key save with one minute to play off the foot of FAU’s Gi Krstec.
 
FAU had a slight edge in shots at 15-13, including a 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Owls also took 10 corners to the Golden Eagles’ six.
 
Mindnich made six saves for Southern Miss. Florida Atlantic goaltender Amit Cohen had two saves for the Owls.
