DALLAS – Following two league wins on the week, graduate student Carl Pierre earned his first weekly Conference USA honor of the season as he was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, North Texas’ Aaron Scott repeated as the C-USA Freshman of the Week as he earned the recognition a week ago as well. The 2021-22 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CARL PIERRE, RICE
GRADUATE STUDENT, G, 6-4, BOSTON, MASS.
Pierre had his best week of the season to lead Rice to victories over Middle Tennessee and West Division leader UAB. Pierre averaged 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while connecting on 57.7% from the field. He opened the week against Middle Tennessee recording his first career double-double, scoring a game-high 19 points while pulling down a career-high 10 rebounds. With the Owls trailing 47-46 at the under-eight timeout, Pierre scored eight straight points in a 10-0 run to key Rice to victory. Two days later, Pierre helped the Owls snap UAB’s four-game winning streak, scoring 19 points while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. He also tied a career-high with two blocks. With UAB holding a one-point lead with less than five minutes to play, the Boston, Mass., native scored five-straight points, including his third three-pointer that gave the Owls the lead for good. Pierre is in the top 10 in Conference USA in scoring (15.1), field goal percentage (50.7%), three-point field goal percentage (43.0%) and three-pointers made per game (2.86).
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
AARON SCOTT, NORTH TEXAS
FRESHMAN, G/F, 6-7, SPRING, TEXAS
Scott, who is the reigning C-USA Freshman of the Week, averaged 6.5 ppg last week and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field in the two games combined. Scott scored nine points in 30 minutes off the bench on Saturday in UNT's win over Middle Tennessee. His nine points are the second-most he's scored in a game this season while he also averaged three rebounds per game.
