DALLAS – Following back-to-back wins to extend UTEP’s win streak to five-straight, redshirt junior Souley Boum was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, Charlotte’s Aly Khalifa was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. The 2021-22 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SOULEY BOUM, UTEP
REDSHIRT JUNIOR, G, 6-3, OAKLAND, CALIF.
Boum had the best two-game scoring stretch of his career in helping lead the UTEP men's basketball team to a perfect 2-0 record with wins over Florida Atlantic and FIU. He put up 60 points on the weekend (28 vs. FAU) and a season-high 32 points against FIU on 21-of-34 shooting, including 9-18 on 3-point shots. Boum played all but two minutes of action on the weekend. He was also 9-of-11 at the charity stripe. He combined for four assists and two turnovers in the two victories while helping UTEP extend its win-streak to five-straight games.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ALY KHALIFA, CHARLOTTE
FRESHMAN, F/C, 6-11, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT
Three-time freshman of the week Khalifa was an integral part of Charlotte's 71-67 victory over Old Dominion at home on Wednesday evening. The Alexandria, Egypt native scored 10 points, pulled in four rebounds and rejected a pair of shot attempts. Late in the victory, Khalifa hit a number of buckets while backing down ODU's Austin Trice in the paint to help give CLT its fourth conference victory of the year. On Saturday in the rematch against ODU, Khalifa scored nine points, recorded five rebounds, dished out two assists and had another block.
