WSOC: October 4 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Florida Atlantic’s Bri Austin and Amanda Martin, along with UAB’s Eve Beyer, earned 2022 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, presented by Blenders Eyewear.

Austin is named the Offensive Player of the Week and Martin garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Owls to a 1-1 week, which was capped off by a 2-0 win over Charlotte on Sunday. Austin was involved in both goals, and Martin led the back line to its sixth shutout of the year, which is tied for the league lead. FAU (6-5-3, 2-2-1 C-USA) returns to the pitch Friday against UTEP at 6 p.m. CT.

Beyer earns the title of Goalkeeper of the Week following a pair of road shutouts which resulted in a 1-0-1 week for the Blazers, who took over sole possession of first place. UAB (7-2-3, 4-0-1 C-USA) enters Sunday’s 11 a.m. kick against UTSA as the top-ranked squad in the United Soccer Coaches South Region poll.

Offensive Player of the Week – Bri Austin, Florida Atlantic – Grad Student – Miami, Fla.
Austin helped the Owls get on the board just 101 seconds into their win over Charlotte as Morgan McDonald finished off a cross from Austin for her first collegiate goal. Austin beat the keeper in the 66th minute to double FAU’s lead. She ranks among the top-five in C-USA in goals (five), assists (four) and points (14) this season.

Defensive Player of the Week – Amanda Martin, Florida Atlantic – Senior – Miami, Fla.
Martin logged all 180 minutes at center back, helping limit Rice to its second-lowest shot total on the year (four) and leading FAU to its sixth shutout of the year versus Charlotte to tie for the league lead. The 49ers also struggled to find good looks on Martin and the Owls defense, placing just two of their 10 shots on frame.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Eve Beyer, UAB – Senior – Tucker, Ga.
The league leader in goals-against average (.200), save percentage (.929) and shutouts per game (.800) in conference play, Beyer tallied her third and fourth consecutive clean sheets in a 1-0 win at UTEP and a scoreless draw at North Texas. She stopped three shots against the Miners and made five saves on 19 shots faced from the Mean Green.
