Paige Briggs, who averaged a .565 hitting percentage in six sets, Charlotte’s
Amani McArthur, who averaged 1.11 blocks per set, Rice’s
Carly Graham, who averaged 12 assists per set, and Middle Tennessee’s
Adri Rhoda, who had 20 kills on the week, earned this week’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors presented by
Blenders Eyewear.
C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – Paige Briggs, WKU, Sr., Ortonville, Mich.
Briggs committed only two hitting errors over the weekend in Florida while hitting .595 in two matches. On Friday, the senior from Ortonville, Michigan, hit a perfect match, with no errors, posting 17 kills for a .680 hitting clip, her second-best of her career against Florida Atlantic. On Sunday, Briggs picked up 10 kills in a victory against FIU. She also had four blocks and two service aces while averaging 5.25 points per set for the week. Briggs ranks third in the conference in kills per set with 3.84.
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Amani McArthur, Charlotte, Sr., Summerville, S.C.
McArthur came up with a clutch weekend helping the Niners to a pair of road wins at FIU and Florida Atlantic to keep Charlotte’s tournament hopes alive. McArthur started with six blocks, a stellar four solo, while tossing in 11 kills from the middle hitting .562 in the five-set victory Friday at FIU. On Sunday, McArthur added four more blocks and another 11 kills hitting .733 in an error-free afternoon topping the Owls in four. McArthur hit .645 for the weekend with 22 kills averaging 2.44 kills per set, picked up 1.11 blocks per set and averaged 3.22 points per set for the weekend.
C-USA Setter of the Week – Carly Graham, Rice, 5Sr., Spring, Texas
Graham helped Rice to a dominant 2-0 record on the week, recording 72 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills. She opened the week against North Texas, recording 37 assists, five digs, and four kills. The Spring, Texas, native closed the week against Louisiana Tech on Senior Day, recording 35 assists, the 18th time with at least 30 assists in a match. She also added seven digs and six kills. On the week, she averaged 12 assists per set. She is second in C-USA with 10.10 assists per set.
C-USA Freshman of the Week – Adri Rhoda, Middle Tennessee, Fr., Hutchinson, Minn.
Rhoda led the Blue Raiders in serving, attacking, and scoring. Among freshman in Conference USA, Rhoda ranked first in kills, kills per set, points, and points per set. She was also tied for first in total aces and second in hitting percentage and aces per set. This weekend, Rhoda reached 61 aces on the season, putting her on the career list in ninth place for service aces. This weekend also brought Rhoda back to third in the nation for total aces and sixth for aces per set.
