NASSAU, Bahamas - UAB (7-6) came from behind to win the 2022 Hometown Lenders Bahamas Bowl, 24-20, over Miami (OH) (6-7) on Friday to kick off the 2022-23 bowl season. The Blazers trailed 20-17 late, but the Blazers marched 70 yards in five plays and capped the drive off with a Jermaine Brown, Jr., 12-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-short to put UAB on top. They then held on, stopping the RedHawks late, who came up two yards short as time expired.

UAB WR Trea Shropshire led the way for the Blazers with six catches for 183 yards and a touchdown, including a 49-yard grab to begin the the go-ahead drive. On the ground, Brown carried 24 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns, including what turned out to be the game-winner. Brown was the starter, due to the nation's leading rusher DeWayne McBride's decision to opt out and enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

Defensively, LB Reynard Ellis led the Blazers with 10 tackles, added a half sack and a quarterback hurry in the win. Fellow LB Noah Wilder, who gutted through injury, finished with nine stops and a half sack as well for the Blazers, who closed the 2022 season with its third win in the past four games.
