DALLAS – Rice’s Quincy Olivari and Florida Atlantic’s Nick Boyd earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2022-23 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
 
Olivari averaged 28.5 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game to help the Owls extend their winning streak to five games, the longest since 2016-17. The junior guard shot 54.8 percent from the field (17-31), 50 percent from three (7-14) and 76.3 percent from the free-throw line (16-21).
 
Boyd shone in a pair of FAU victories, averaging 14 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest and helping the Owls stretch their school-record start to 7-1. He shot 56 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three last week. The redshirt freshman guard has scored in double-digits in each of his last three contests, upping his season tally to 8.9 per game.
 
Player of the Week – Quincy Olivari, Rice – Junior – Atlanta, Ga.
Olivari dropped 20 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to help Rice pull away for a 70-62 win over Prairie View A&M. With his team down 12 with 15 minutes to play, Olivari scored 13 straight points to rally the Owls. He added five rebounds, three assists and a career-high three steals while connecting on a career-best 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Olivari then scored a season-high 30 points, his second career 30-point game, in an 83-71 victory at reigning Sun Belt regular season champion Texas State. He tied his season-high with five three-pointers while adding five rebounds and five assists.
 
Freshman of the Week – Nick Boyd, Florida Atlantic – Redshirt Freshman – Garnerville, N.Y.  
Boyd recorded his first career double-double in an 84-59 victory over South Alabama, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. He shot 3-6 from the field, including 2-4 from beyond the arc, and dished out a pair of assists. Boyd followed it up with a career-best 17 points on 6-10 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists in a commanding 101-73 win over Eastern Michigan.
