DALLAS – After helping extend WKU’s win streak to seven-straight, sophomore Dayvion McKnight was named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday. Additionally, Charlotte’s Aly Khalifa, was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Week for the fifth time on the year. The 2021-22 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Surf & Turf Golf and are voted on by the league’s men’s basketball communications directors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DAYVION MCKNIGHT, WKU
SOPHOMORE, G, 6-1, SHELBYVILLE, KY.
McKnight was dominant in helping WKU to a 3-0 week and a seven-game winning streak, averaging 23.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists across the three victories. McKnight shot 59 percent from the field during the week and made 17-of-20 free throws while playing 116-of-120 possible minutes. He started the week with 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a Monday road win at Southern Miss. McKnight then followed with 22 points in Thursday’s victory over Charlotte, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the first half. He concluded the week Saturday on short rest with 23 points and seven rebounds in a full 40 minutes in a victory over Old Dominion. This is the second weekly award for McKnight this season (Nov. 15)
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ALY KHALIFA, CHARLOTTE
FRESHMAN, F/C, 6-11, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT
Khalifa picked up his fifth Freshman of the Week award following another stellar week, averaging 16.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in CLT's games at WKU and at Marshall. On Thursday, Khalifa scored 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field and a 2-of-4 mark from 3-point range. In Saturday's bounce back win, Khalifa was arguably the Niners’ most important player, scoring 20 points on a perfect, 8-of-8 from the field, while knocking down each of his season-high four 3-point attempts. Khalifa ranks fifth on the 49ers in scoring with 7.7 points per game and second in assists with 3.7 helpers per contest with just four games remaining in his first full campaign in the Queen City.
