WSOC: Oct. 3 Players of the Week

DALLAS – New Mexico State’s Loma McNeese and Megan Ormson, along with Jacksonville State’s Bailey Dean, earned Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, presented by Blenders Eyewear.

McNeese and Ormson garnered Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, after accounting for both goals in the Aggies’ (7-5-1, 4-0-0 CUSA) 2-0 upset of previously unbeaten Liberty.

Dean is tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Week after recording a clean sheet in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over UTEP – the first league win for the Gamecocks (6-5-2, 1-1-2) in their CUSA era. She moved into a tie for second in the league with her fifth shutout of the year.

Offensive Player of the Week – Loma McNeese, NM State – Senior – Sherwood, Ore.
The Preseason Offensive Player of the Year delivered the dagger with a 57th minute goal to double the Aggies’ lead over previously unbeaten Liberty on Saturday. Her chip to the back post found the back of the net to move her into a tie atop the conference with seven points in CUSA play (two goals, three assists). McNeese has been a catalyst for a NM State offense that has scored at a blazing rate with 11 goals in the last four contests, compared to 10 in the first nine.

Defensive Player of the Week – Megan Ormson, NM State – Senior – Folsom, Calif.
Ormson contributed to an Aggie defense that held Liberty scoreless for the first time since Oct. 16, 2022, and ended the nation’s longest unbeaten streak at 24 matches. The Lady Flames were limited to just two shots on goal on 12 total attempts. In addition to her defensive play in the midfield, Ormson picked up her first assist of the season on the game-winning goal in the 26th minute.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Bailey Dean, Jax State – Sophomore – St. Augustine, Fla.
Dean collected her fifth shutout of the season in leading the Gamecocks to their first CUSA victory with a 1-0 triumph over UTEP on Sunday. She tallied three saves in the match with the biggest coming on a penalty kick save in the 69th minute while her team held a 1-0 advantage. Dean also survived a couple of early Miner chances with stops in the 14th and 17th minutes. She is tied for the second-most shutouts (five) and ranks second in saves per game (3.92) this season.
