INDIANAPOLIS – Florida Atlantic head coach
Dusty May was named the District IV Coach of the Year, and Rice’s
Quincy Olivari landed on the All-District VII team, the USBWA announced on Tuesday.
Following a banner year on the FAU sideline, May – the C-USA Coach of the Year – becomes the first Conference USA coach to claim a USBWA District Coach of the Year title since John Calipari also took home District IV Coach of the Year honors in 2009.
The Owls (31-3) claimed their first C-USA regular season title with a league-record 18 wins in conference play and secured their first C-USA tournament title following a commanding 78-56 win over UAB in Saturday’s final. FAU has won a program-record 31 games on the year.
Olivari snaps an 11-year drought of all-district honors for Rice, earning the program’s first honor since Arsalan Kazemi in 2012. Olivari finished league play as the only student-athlete in the top-10 in scoring (18.9) and rebounding (6.3) and led the conference in minutes per game (36.1).
