MBB: Owls Fall in Final Four Heartbreaker, 72-71

HOUSTON - Florida Atlantic (35-4) fell in heartbreaking fashion Saturday night in Houston to San Diego State, 72-71, putting a close to a historic run for the Owls. The Aztecs' Lamont Butler hit a game-winning jumper at the horn to send SDSU to Monday's title game.

The Owls were paced by guard Alijah Martin, who finished with a game-high 26 points on 7-13 shooting, and the sophomore also grabbed seven rebounds. Florida Atlantic led by as many as 14 in the second half, but San Diego State seized its first lead since the 7:48 mark of the first half on the game's final shot.

Florida Atlantic finishes with the most wins in Division I this season (35), and Conference USA finishes the postseason with a mark of 18-3, a Final Four appearance, an NIT title (North Texas) and a CBI crown (Charlotte).
