BSB: DBU, Charlotte Selected to the NCAA Tournament Field

DALLAS – Conference USA has received two bids to the 2023 NCAA Baseball Championship, as announced by the Division I baseball committee on Monday. C-USA tournament champion Charlotte will be the No. 3 seed in the Clemson Regional while C-USA regular season champ DBU will be a No. 2 seed in the Stillwater Regional. Regional action will open Friday, June 2.
 
In their first year as a member of C-USA, DBU (45-14) will travel to Stillwater and open up their postseason trip against Washington (34-18) on Friday. The No. 2 seeded Patriots and C-USA regular season champs will join No. 1 Oklahoma State (41-18) and No. 4 Oral Roberts (46-11), who meet Friday with times announced later. The Patriots and Cowboys squared off twice in the regular season and split the two contests, both winning their home matchups.
 
The Patriots, led by head coach Dan Heefner, guides his team to their 12th regional appearance in program history and the ninth straight. C-USA Newcomer of the Year Ethan Mann has paced the DBU lineup as of late in the cleanup spot earning All-Tournament Team recognition and leads the league with 78 RBI.
 
Fresh off their C-USA tournament championship, the Charlotte 49ers (34-26) will hit the road to Clemson as a No. 3 seed and will begin play with No. 2 Tennessee (38-19). The Niners join No. 1 Clemson (43-17) and No. 4 Lipscomb (36-24) who will meet in the other contest on Friday. Charlotte is coming off its first C-USA tournament title and five straight wins led by skipper Robert Woodard.
 
Charlotte sophomore slugger Cam Fisher was a monster at the plate during their six games in Houston going 13-for-21 (.619) with a C-USA tournament record six home runs, 33 total bases and tied the RBI record with 13. Fisher was named the Russell D. Anderson Most Valuable Player for his phenomenal performance at the plate.

Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals are scheduled to be conducted from Friday, June 2, to Monday, June 5 (if necessary).

A C-USA team has advanced to a Super Regional in 12 of the last 22 years and reached the College World Series six times since 2005.

The Men's College World Series begins play Friday, June 16, at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
