MIAMI, Fla. – No. 1 FIU defeated No. 2 Liberty, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium to claim their first Conference USA Tournament Championship in program history.
Deborah Bien-Aime delivered the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 47
th minute.
Noemi Paquin was lethal on offensive all week for the Panthers, tallying a goal in their semifinal win and four shots with one on goal in the victory on Sunday. She earned Offensive MVP honors for the tournament.
Delinda Sehlin anchored the FIU back line, helping guide them to back-to-back shutout performances and two assists in their two contests. Sehlin was named Defensive MVP for the tournament.
The Panthers secured the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and await their matchup, which is set to be announced Monday at 3 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
