BOWL: January Bowlers of the Month

DALLAS – Earning an individual title and finishing runner-up in tournaments throughout January, Youngstown State’s Jade Cote received Bowler of the Month to kick off Conference USA’s first installment of spring awards. Vanderbilt’s Paige Peters was named to the all-tournament team and finished top-three in a pair of tournaments this month to earn CUSA Newcomer of the Month. CUSA Bowler of the Month – Jade Cote, Youngstown State, Jr., Farnham, Quebec, Canada
Cote won the individual title at the Northeast Classic, and she was the runner-up at the PVAMU Invitational. The junior averaged 234 pins per game in 11 traditional games from the two tournaments. She broke four school records in the traditional format in January. At the Northeast Classic, she broke the previous records for highest game (299), five-game set (1,202) and tournament average (240.4). She then set a new school standard for a six-game set (1,372) at the PVAMU Invitational. Overall, she averaged 22.30 pins per frame over the course of 276 frames at the Northeast Classic and PVAMU Invitational. She averaged 22.86 at the Northeast Classic and 21.72 at the PVAMU Invitational. The 22.86 at the Northeast Classic was the second-best average at a tournament in Penguin program history. The Farnham, Quebec, native struck on 62.7% of her opportunities during the month as she became the nation's leader in strike percentage. Cote had a 91.7% fill frame percentage in January, and she converted 90.9% of her makeable spare opportunities. As a team, Cote led the Penguins to a fourth-place finish at the Northeast Classic and a third-place finish at the PVAMU Invitational.
 
CUSA Newcomer of the Month – Paige Peters, Vanderbilt, Jr., Toms River, N.J.
Peters was named to the all-tournament team and finished third individually at both the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic and the Northeast Classic. The junior averaged 219.40 pins per game in Vegas, 223.40 in Delaware and 210.5 at PVAMU for an overall 217.7 average for the month of January. Additionally, she had Vanderbilt's highest five-game average at all three tournaments this month as she also anchored Vandy in all its Baker lineups in January.
