HARAHAN, La. – Jacksonville State punched their ticket to the championship match on day three of the 2024 Conference USA Bowling Tournament at Colonial Lanes on Saturday. Arkansas State and Youngstown State are set to compete tomorrow morning for a bid to the final match to face the Gamecocks.

Starting the day in the contender’s bracket, No. 5 LA Tech won both traditional and Baker points over Vanderbilt, sending the Commodores home and moving on to the afternoon session.

The tournament’s No. 3-seed, YSU, merely held their ground against No. 6 Sam Houston. The Penguins won traditional 937-926, and in an intense baker game, YSU secured their spot in facing LA Tech by just one point, 869-868.

The Bulldogs and Penguins battled it out in the contender’s bracket. YSU bettered LA Tech in traditional (982-908), but the Bulldogs answered in Baker competition (842-750). The Penguins took back their lead as they earned them a spot to play for a championship match bid after winning the Baker best-of-seven, 4-1. LA Tech’s championship run came to an end.

Arkansas State and Jax State split both games and headed into Baker best-of-seven match play. The No. 1 Gamecocks came out on top after going 4-0 for the point and secured their spot in tomorrow afternoon’s championship match. A-State will face YSU in the morning for a chance at making it back to the final match to face Jax State once again.

Jax State Head Coach Shannon O'Keefe explained, "We have been telling them the whole time that, because we are the strongest conference in the country, this could be and more than likely will be harder than our regional in two weeks. This is perfect preparation to get us ready for regionals and then hopefully to win regionals and move on to the final four. I would not be surprised if we see all four teams in the final four come from this conference."
