WSOC: August 20 Players of the Week

DALLAS – New Mexico State’s Meredith Scott, Liberty’s Kayla Magee and Louisiana Tech’s Sarah Melén earned the first Conference USA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week – Meredith Scott, NM State – Junior – Tucson, Ariz.
Scott kicked off her junior season on the right note, notching a goal in each of the Aggies’ (1-0-1) two games played on opening weekend. Her first goal of the year came in the final 30 seconds against No. 23 USC as the equalizer in a 2-2 draw. The midfielder from Tucson recorded her second goal of the weekend in the opening minutes of their match against New Mexico on Sunday. Scott found the back of the net on each of her two shots and doubled her goal tally from last season.

Defensive Player of the Week – Kayla Magee, Liberty – Junior – Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Magee was superb on the back line for Liberty (2-0) as she helped pave the way to wins over High Point and reigning Sun Belt champion, Old Dominion. The junior defender was the only Lady Flame to play in two full 90-minute games while helping hold High Point to just two shots and ODU to eight. Magee was also able to record two shots in the match with High Point on Thursday.

Goalkeeper of the Week – Sarah Melén, LA Tech – Graduate – Frisco, Texas
Melén stayed strong in the net for the Bulldogs (0-0-2) as she completed her first shutout at LA Tech. The graduate student from Frisco, Texas, held the Ragin’ Cajuns scoreless after they put up 20 shots with 10 of those being on target. Melén collected eight saves for a save percentage of 1.000 and saw action in all 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw.
