DALLAS – Conference USA announced Monday its weekly award winners for week 11. The weekly awards are voted on by a panel of the league’s media.
Offensive Player of the Week – Joe Pesansky, FIU – R-Sr. – QB – Tampa, Fla.
Pesansky accounted for five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) in FIU's 56-30 road win over MTSU, the first road win over the Blue Raiders since 2011. He became the first in program history to total five touchdowns and matched a school record with four passing touchdowns in his first start for the Panthers (4-5, 2-3 CUSA). Pesansky finished 17-28 for 257 yards through the air and added 12 yards per game. In the third quarter, he completed 8-12 passes for 116 yards and two of his four touchdowns. Pesansky played a vital role in jumpstarting the offense, finishing 8-11 for 142 yards on first downs.
Defensive Player of the Week – Caleb Nix, Jax State – Jr. – S – Phenix City, Ala.
Nix recorded his second defensive touchdown of the season, returning an interception 93 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter to give Jax State (6-3, 5-0 CUSA) a 10-point lead during a 30-27 win at UTEP. It marked the second-longest pick six in program history and the first of 70 or more yards by a Gamecock since 2017. He also helped out on a tackle for loss and made five total stops on the day. The victory helped secure bowl eligibility for the Gamecocks for the third straight season since joining FBS.
Special Teams Player of the Week – Nate Reed, Delaware – Gr. – K – Manheim, Pa.
Reed tallied a career day for the Fightin' Blue Hens (5-4, 3-3 CUSA) in a 25-24 come-from-behind win over LA Tech. With 1:49 remaining, Reed converted an onside kick, which was followed up with the eventual game-winning field goal with 12 seconds remaining. The 51-yard game winner was a career long and gave Reed a career-best four field goals made in the game, which tied the most in a game in program history. He was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 1/1 on extra points. His current streak of eight-consecutive field goal places him in a tie for the fifth-longest streak in school history.
Freshman of the Week – Elijah Hill, Kennesaw State – Fr., - DL – Bryant, Ark.
Hill was a nightmare in the backfield for Kennesaw State in the Owls’ seventh-straight victory, a 24-21 triumph on the road over NM State. He recorded 1.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss. Hill turned in the sixth-best overall PFF defensive grade (77.8) among FBS freshmen for Week 11 (min. 30 snaps) and the third-best pass rush grade (79.7) among FBS freshmen for Week 11 (min. 30 snaps). Hill now leads all FBS freshmen nationally with 6.5 sacks on the season.
Offensive Lineman of the Week – Josiah Chenault, KSU – R-So. – OL – Sanford, Fla.
Chenault once again led an impressive performance from the Kennesaw State offensive line, playing every single snap in the Owls’ seventh-straight victory, a 24-21 triumph on the road over NM State. Chenault and Co. turned in a clean sheet for the Owls, not surrendering a single sack all game, while also helping KSU roll up 208 rushing yards and 427 yards of offense for the game. Chenault recorded the seventh-best PFF pass blocking grade (83.0) among FBS centers for Week 11 (min. 70 blocking snaps) and the 8th-best overall offensive grade (70.5) among FBS centers for Week 11 (min. 70 blocking snaps). While commanding the offensive line, Chenault surrendered zero sacks, QB hits, hurries or pressures in 78 snaps of work.
