WSOC: Liberty Claims Second CUSA Title in Three Years

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 2 Liberty defeated No. 8 Missouri State, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Osborne Stadium to claim their second Conference USA Tournament Championship in program history.
 
Ivy Garner earned Offensive MVP and was spectacular all week for the Flames, breaking a CUSA championship record with five goals in three matches. Her fifth goal came in the 46th minute of the title match off a penalty kick to put the game on ice.
 
Liberty freshman Lauren Flax notched the first two scores of the championship in the fourth and 29th minute. With her superb performance on Friday, Flax was named to the all-tournament team.
 
Lauren Littleton anchored the Liberty back line, guiding them to back-to-back shutout efforts. The tournament’s Defensive MVP helped the Flames allow just one shot on target in the semifinal and championship match.
 
The Lady Flames secured the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and await their matchup, which is set to be announced Monday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
