SB: March 17 Players of the Week

DALLAS – Liberty’s Rachel Roupe, NM State’s Devin Elam, FIU’s Kennedy Byrd and MTSU’s Leila Ammon earned Conference USA Softball weekly honors.

Roupe and Elam share Player of the Week honors, while Byrd is the Pitcher of the Week. Ammon is the Freshman of the Week.

Co-Player of the Week – Rachel Roupe, Liberty – Senior – Outfielder – Sharpsburg, Md.
Roupe earns her third Player of the Week title in the last four weeks after homering in all three games during a 3-0 showing for the Lady Flames (23-4, 5-0 CUSA). She batted .500 (5-for-10) with four homers, six RBI, three walks, six runs scored, a 1.700 slugging percentage and .615 on base percentage, extending her hitting streak to 11 games. On Tuesday at Marshall, Roupe registered her 10th career two-homer game, batting 2-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. During Friday's opener at WKU, she recorded her program-record-tying sixth straight two-hit game, going 2-3 with a homer, one RBI and two runs scored. In game two, Roupe went 1-4, but her one hit was huge. She homered to make the score 6-3 over WKU as Liberty broke the tie with a seven-run sixth inning to sweep the doubleheader and series.

Co-Player of the Week – Devin Elam, NM State – Junior – Outfielder – Long Beach, Calif.
Elam returned from an eight-game injury absence and made an immediate impact for the Aggies (17-12, 4-2 CUSA). She went 6-10 (.600) and racked up six hits in three outings, leading the offense to another series win over Jax State. With a walk, two doubles and a home run, Elam notched 11 total bases and a 1.736 OPS. On Saturday, she roped a two-run double which eventually served as the game-winner, giving NM State an 8-3 advantage in the 8-7 triumph. The junior's home run on Sunday brought in three of her team's five runs as NM State took the rubber match against the Gamecocks. For the week, Elam tallied seven RBIs to pace a NM State offense that scored 26 runs in a 3-1 week that began with a rivalry win over New Mexico. The outfielder also tallied five putouts and an assist as she maintained her 1.000 fielding percentage in 2025.

Pitcher of the Week – Kennedy Byrd, FIU – Junior – Benson, N.C.
In Sunday’s series finale against Kennesaw State, Byrd tossed a no-hitter and helped secure a conference series sweep, both of which were the first occurrences for the Panthers (22-8, 5-1 CUSA) since the 2023 season. She surrendered just three walks and issued four strikeouts as she logged all zeros across the board. Byrd also set the tone for the series with a complete-game victory on Friday, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts in a 4-2 triumph. She finished the week with a 0.50 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP and a .104 opponent batting average in 14 innings of work, while improving to 10-5 on the season.

Freshman of the Week – Leila Ammon, MTSU – Pitcher – Gulf Breeze, Fla.
After logging a 0.91 ERA in 15.1 innings with a pair of complete game victories, Ammon collects her second Freshman of the Week honor. On Wednesday, she dominated the No. 19 Mississippi State offense in MTSU’s dramatic, upset win over the Bulldogs. She went the distance and surrendered just two runs and struck out three Bulldogs while playing the hero in the ranked win for the Blue Raiders. In the weekend series with Sam Houston, Ammon threw 8.1 innings across two appearances while surrendering zero earned runs. In her first appearance, the freshman tossed a complete game with no earned runs against the Bearkats, while striking out six. In her third and final appearance of the week, Ammon threw 1.1 scoreless innings in a relief role.
